MSU BILLINGS FOUNDATION & ALUMNI NEWS— Steve and Jennifer Corning and Billings Scheels are supporting a new generation of Montana State University Billings students who have a demonstrated ability to address dynamic challenges and opportunities within their hometown. The spirit of the Corning Honors Scholarship and the Scheels Honors Scholarship is to support civic-minded individuals who are equipping themselves to serve the greater good. 

“We are inspired by the generosity of the Cornings and Scheels and wish to thank them for their commitment to our students and the community,” said MSU Billing Foundation and Alumni President Krista Montague. “This endowment creates a path to a brighter future benefiting today’s scholars as they develop into community leaders.”

The Corning Honors Scholarship recipient is first-time freshman Connor Brandon. Brandon is a native of Billings studying business. The Scheels Honors Scholarship recipient is Casey Davis a senior studying education. Davis is a native of Billings who is slated to graduate in May. Both have received full-tuition covered for the 2023-24 academic year. 

“We are excited to partner with the Cornings on this program,” said Billing Scheels Store Leader Pete Philippi. “It is our honor to help grow a strong community. These scholarships are a great example of individuals and corporations working together to build the next generation of leaders.” 

Both scholarships are designated for students accepted into the MSU Billings University Honors Program. Students in the program are exposed to rigorous, multi-disciplinary academic coursework along with community service. Scholarship recipients are selected by a committee comprised of representatives from the honors program and foundation.
