MSU BILLINGS FOUNDATION & ALUMNI NEWS—The MSU Billings Foundation & Alumni recently received a substantial contribution of $50,000 from Altana Federal Credit Union. This contribution is specifically designated to enhance educational opportunities and alleviate financial obstacles encountered by students in their pursuit of higher education.

Altana Federal Credit Union’s support will aid the Yellowjacket Excellence Scholarship. These renewable awards are automatically awarded based upon high school GPA and provide students with a predictable source of financial support throughout their entire college journey.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Altana Federal Credit Union for their generous contribution,” said MSU Billing Foundation and Alumni CEO Krista Montague. “Their commitment to supporting and empowering students is commendable, and we appreciate their unwavering dedication to fostering excellence and transforming lives through education.”

Altana Federal Credit Union was founded 70 years ago. Since then, it has grown from a small, local business to supporting people and families in 40 counties across Montana and nine in Wyoming.

“At Altana Federal Credit Union, we’ve always believed that our members and community thrive together. That’s why I’m proud to announce a combined gift of $50,000 to MSUB,” said Jason Hagadone, President/CEO of Altana FCU. “$25,000 will help launch a new scholarship program, the Yellowjacket Excellence Scholarship, that recognizes deserving high school students based on their academic achievement. The remaining $25,000 will be placed in an endowment that will continue to grow and benefit the next generation of leaders and innovators. We’re committed to investing in the bright minds that will shape our tomorrow.”

The donation comes at a strategic time for MSU Billings, providing financial assistance to students who may face barriers to accessing advanced education. Research has shown that financial aid, particularly renewable awards, positively impacts student retention and graduation rates. When students have consistent financial support, they are more likely to persist in their studies and ultimately complete their degrees on time. MSUB is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment, ensuring that all students have the opportunity to pursue their academic goals.
