The cuvées are J Lohr’s homage to Bordeaux. Pau refers to Paulliac, St. E refers to St. Emilion, and Pom to Pomerol. The fruit for the Chapter cuvée is sourced from a special block at the Conner-Lee vineyard, where the vines are severely pruned to yield “one bottle per vine” in the Bordeaux fashion. The Volume cuvée is similarly sourced from the Sagemore Dionysus vineyard. Both cuvées are crafted to represent Cabernet at its most gorgeous and prestigious expression. Both series of wines have been hailed by critics as being some of the great Cabs of Washington state. Wine Spectator, Suckling, and Bargreen have all awarded 94 points to one or another of these wines. These are Bookwalter’s legacy wines, and it is unlikely that a vertical such as this one will be found any place or any time again.

Volume Ten and Chapter 11 are Bookwalter’s uber red reserve wines. Both are Cabernet Sauvignon (at least 90%) driven Bordeaux style blends with extremely limited production. Generally fewer than 600 6-bottle cases are produced in a given year. 3rd edition is John Bookwalter’s homage to Bordeaux white wine. The 2019 blend was 63% Semillon, 17% Muscadelle, and 20% Sauvignon Blanc. These wines are Bookwalter’s legacy reserve wines, which are comparable not only to the best wines of Washington state, but also the best of Bordeaux.
