June letter to alumni from Gillette Vaira

For the first time this year, the Alumni Association offered the Golden Graduates Alumni Program. Alumni who graduated 50 or more years ago came back to campus for reunion activities, a tour, and participation in the commencement ceremony.

The 2019 Golden Graduates beamed as they sat in their golden caps and gowns in the MetraPark Arena, holding their diploma plaques and cheering on members of the class of 2019 as they crossed the stage. It was historic.

These are some of the things our Golden Grads are saying about their weekend back at their alma mater.

  • “We had all shared in a poignant rite of passage. It was special. It was singular. It was a success.” –Jill Shea, ‘67
  • “This is a brilliant program. I was really honored.” –Steve Scanlin, ‘69
  • “I felt so welcomed while I was there – like the weekend had been planned for special people.” –Norma Scheidecker, ‘65

Friends were reunited. Generations met. The Golden Graduates uplifted their old stomping grounds – bringing years of experiences back to the place which impacted their life paths.

With enthusiasm,

Gillette Vaira, M.A.
