Jordan Roe: Connection to Campus, Gateway to Career

I greatly appreciate your support of the MSU Billings dual enrollment programs.

Over the past year, I was able to take 18 credits as a University Connections and High School Connections student. Currently, I am taking two of the classes, College EMT and Introduction to Public Speaking, in person at high school. I am also taking Introduction to Statistics and Introduction to Sociology online. I got all of these credits for a total of $150, which was the cost of my books.

Financially, this opportunity to basically earn college credits for free is enormous since I will be paying for college myself. Taking dual enrollment classes has also given me a huge advantage over my peers, as I now have experience and insight into what it takes to be a college student and how to manage college classes. I am now a semester ahead of other incoming freshmen, which will allow me to either graduate early or take lighter credit loads some semesters.

This fall, I will become a Montana State University Billings Yellowjacket. I have also committed to play on the womens’ soccer team. The classes I have taken in advance have been so beneficial in helping me determine my career path. I found that I love to learn about the anatomy and physiology of the human body, and that I want to use this knowledge to help people. I also gained valuable experience in giving practical exams that has given me hands-on medical knowledge and confidence that I otherwise would not have. All of these opportunities have helped me narrow my possible career paths; I want to pursue a degree in nursing or pre-medicine.

I just want to reiterate how much I appreciate your support of the dual enrollment programs and future MSU Billings students like me. Thank you for investing in my education! Go Yellowjackets!
