Wearing her first pair of glasses in second grade marked the beginning of Haley Menge’s passion for eye care. But the Saco, Montana, native didn’t think it was possible to become an optometrist until she worked with her science professors at MSU Billings.
“The MSUB professors truly cared,” Menge said. “You weren’t a number there. They wanted you to succeed.”
When she transferred to Bozeman to be closer to her now-husband, Menge realized she had an edge over the other students. She attributes this advantage to the strong science education she obtained at MSU Billings. She then pursued optometry school and now owns Hi-Line Eye Care. As the only full-time optometrist in Glasgow, Montana, she serves patients from throughout northern Montana, while maintaining the rural lifestyle she grew up enjoying.
“MSU Billings was a good start for me. I don’t know if I had the confidence to start in a bigger school. They boosted me up and made me believe, ‘I can do this.’”
