April letter to alumni from Chancellor Edelman

Dear alumni,

As spring semester is coming to a close, we are preparing for Montana State University Billings’ 92nd Annual Commencement.

Celebrate the class of 2019

On Saturday, May 4 at 10 a.m. at Metra Park, we will confer over 780 degrees to students and recognize a new group of alumni, Golden Graduates, those who graduated 50 or more years ago. I’m excited about this special addition to the ceremony, as it is important to honor those who have contributed to the rich history of this institution.

I invite alumni to come celebrate with this year’s new graduates. Come to the Metra to watch the commencement ceremony, view it on our website, or volunteer with our Alumni Association to hand out alumni pins to new graduates at the ceremony.

Commencement weekend will also include a backyard barbecue on Friday, May 3 from 4-7 p.m. at the MSUB Foundation, 2615 Virginia Lane. New graduates, alumni, family and friends are all welcome to attend this celebration.

Buzzin’ Beyond Billings

Spring has also been busy for our Alumni Association with outreach to graduates, near and far. They are hosting Buzzin’ Beyond Billings alumni events in Phoenix, Helena and Butte. I’ve enjoyed the conversations with alumni at these events and talked about the important changes taking place at their alma mater. One alumnus recently asked a question that I thought I’d share. He was curious whether contributions stay with MSU Billings or whether they go to other institutions in our system. The answer is 100 percent stays with MSU Billings, as it should.

Looking forward, in May we will host our second Buzzin’ Beyond Billings bus tour of eastern Montana. Check out our event calendar for more details on gatherings in Miles City, Sidney, Glendive and Poplar!

At MSU Billings, we value our alumni. I encourage you to connect with the university, stay involved, and support our future generation of students.
